Hatred for Eptic and his style.

Postby Adage » Mon May 21, 2012 12:40 pm

Ok i'd like to start a little debate here, well, not so much really. I'd actually like to vent my disgust at the music that Eptic and the likes are churning out at this point in time.

Now, i'm all for progression in music, but if making out of key remixes that destroy the original track is the new trend, then you can count me out. Exhibit A (Eptic - Pump up the off key bass).
I'm going to bash a lot about this guy right now, just because he's rinsed the sound so much. Even Skrillex has changed his style up in the time it's taken for Eptic to make a billion other tracks, and sure, he was good when he started (Eptic - Fools), but the sound needs to be progressed for me to like it.
I could bet you a trillion $$$ that this guy doesn't make other genres or subgenres of dubstep/music because he CAN'T. Even his good friend Habstrakt managed to pull out a huge "dark" track (Habstrakt - Night Trains).
Now, you can say what you like about Eptic's style and it's probably good for clubs and such, but i've also seen this guy DJ in Birmingham, and the floor was not packed even a 1/4.
All i'm saying is, if he's going to make new tracks, i'd at least want to see some variety, it's all the same. He must have a field day when he does mixes purely because no-one can tell where one track finishes and another begins.
Alot of people expect big things from his this upcoming year, but i'm maintaining that until I hear some variation in his style and some general brushing up, I won't follow or like his music. I'll just leave him to do what he's doing and producing relatively weak tracks and then getting them mastered.

So yeah, post your own thoughts, this isn't a place for just my own.
Peace,
Adage.

I like eptic, don't listen to him too much since "Like a boss"
and maybe he knows that certain sound or style will make him money, like why would you start running backwards if you're a runner in the olympics? there's already a good enough style of running that you've got going on

There needs some progression, but you also need people to stay in the same place otherwise you'll lose that style if EVERYone progresses

Also Listen to "Eptic - Like a boss" then that Technotronics remix, completely different styles of Brostep

That's a good point. It's not good to lose the style, but it's better to use styles in moderation. In the short you've backed up the point that he's a sellout and there are too many "bros" supporting his music, which is a shame.
I've actually followed his whole range of music back from 09/10 when he was released on the Farmville EP with Fools (Eptic - Fools) which was his best track in my opinion. I disagree that Like a Boss and the Technotronics remix are different styles, they both contain fast bleeps and straight basses. The style itself is too simple and repetitive, too rinsed to last much longer, and I for one hope that it dies out quickly to be replaced by good music.

Cool discussion. Although i consider Eptic to be one of the best in that style, i'm getting really really bored with that happy kind of bouncey dubstep. The fact of the matter is, it 's easy as hell to produce (add vibrato to everything, use blues scale and diminished chords) yet the genre is really what's hot right now, especially in belgium. Usually i don't really care, except people who listen to this kind of stuff are all like "Skrillex is horible Wonkap fer prezidant woo". People like wonkap, jogo and eptic (all belgian, sadly) are actually horrible producers, they don't know at all what they're doing, yet everything they bring out is loved by the masses, just because it's so dirtyyyyyy brah. Also, 99.9999 percent of bedroom producers make this kind of crap, and i feel like any new song sounds exactly like the one before. And then those guys, producers and fans, dare say that Skrillex is repetitive? I don't care if you make loads of money, i don't care if you're famous as dirt, in my eyes, you're still an untalented piece of shit so don't act like you're all that. Yes wonkap i'm talking to you. (and most people in that genre really. )

I haven't listened to Eptic or any of these others - I can tell from the descriptions that I'd probably hate their stuff - but if I've learned anything from following dance music on and off for more than a decade it's that you can't forcefeed the same thing to a wide audience for too long. Some fans will give you grief for changing style but the broader scene of music listeners will want something fresh fairly soon. So it's only a matter of time before the novelty of the guys Rmonik's talking about wears off, and they either start trying to innovate - like BT (to pick a trance example) did, with mixed results - or stagnate, like that hack Tiesto did for ten years before giving up on trance entirely. Hopefullly it's only a matter of time. Although now that I've brought him up, Tiesto's fans lapped up more or less the same stuff over and over again from him for such a long time so maybe he's not a good example.....

Well that's what i thought, but Rusko was doing this (and doing it better) yeaars ago and people still love it. I brought this very thing up in the topic i created - "how has dubstep still nog died out".

Glad there are others out there who feel the same. I was expecting a barrage of hate to fly my way when I posted this!
Hopefully you are right Rmonik, and the style will die out soon, because to be honest, I can't be doing with going to events just to hear the ridiculous bouncy dubstep tracks every second of the night. And the image that goes with it (hipster-ish, cartoon characters, robots and all that jazz). Like I said though, at the start of the phaze I quite enjoyed it, but now in my eyes it's just rinsed and talentless.

I agree, I really like Fools on the Farmville EP and I seriously liked him back then, but then he released Like a Boss and I was like "Wait.. is this even musically accurate?". It sounded so offtune and just... blargh.
Peep da tunes on that picture of that hot chick with them gorgeous eyes.
