Awesome Phase on Reeses (VST advice)

Tell us how you got that killer synth effect, why you love your sequencer of choice or that you are sick of hearing the same lame preset every time you load up malstrom ¬_¬

Check out 0.41 - I can't get my phase to make some saw waves sound as cool as that, what VSTs do you guys use for that kinda sound - any suggestions?

Hi. Make a reese, modulate, stick two copies in a sampler, detune one of them by 3 cents :D

For that phaser effect, I usually try using a phaser without the LFO (I like the VST Phazor) and manually automating the "freq" knob. I use Synth1 for basically all my synth sounds; it's a lot more flexible and can be a lot more aggressive than people give it credit for.

it's not just 3 cents... :D

I'm still experimenting to get good dnb sounds :?
there are 2 free plugs called sh-1 phase shifter and sh-1 chorus, both on a chain. put the freq knob on minimum values and play with rest. http://rekkerd.org/sweetboy-vst/
and then resample and detune.
for a more phased effect... maybe put one at -3ct and other at +4ct or something. non symmetric values.

detuned mono files sound better than stereo files??

You could try using a comb filter if you're in Thor. I got a similar effect by inverting the filter envelope on it in Lucid Mind.

Here's the patch if you want to take a look at it, it's nothing special, and it'll probably need tweaking to make it work in your context, but yeah.

a z3ta_v1 preset which is available on a web folder along with a million dnb breaks and other stuff. gritty reese, tweakable.

Sounds like a lot of pitch modulation along with some comb-ish filters to me :D Don't really know what VST could be used to do that, but that's my opinion :D

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll test your different suggestions out when I get a moment, really on a DnB kick lately!

comb filter+ 4 stage phaser, maybe an additional notch in a parametric eq sweeping around, if you don't want to resample/detune just to get that sound. sylenth 1 has a built in phaser that gets you results pretty close to this, then you only need to take care of the overall slower sweeping comb filter in the mixer
