I don't quite have perfect pitch, I can't sing a perfect C or whatever, but If you played me a note, I can tell you what it is. I just compare it to open strings on a violin, because I've been playing for so long. The sound of open strings has been imprinted into my brain

Perfect Pitch is being able to identify a musical note without a reference note. Basically, you can tell what any sound is in the world and classify it into the seven notes. Soon you will hear car horns, clanging cans, or even laughter as musical notes.
Perfect pitch is not for everyone. However, one of my music teachers can calculate what notes is played by using his own normal speakin voice as a reference, which is pretty cool, but not quite as accurate as perfect pitch, because your speaking voice may vary in tonality. I, Myself know that I talk around the tone E , often in minor pentatonics, but sometimes chromatic. From that knowledge i'd say that I'm somewhat capable of finding out tones.
