Is it worth dropping Reason...

Tell us how you got that killer synth effect, why you love your sequencer of choice or that you are sick of hearing the same lame preset every time you load up malstrom ¬_¬

A tool is a tool its up to you to make it sound professional. I do not make EDM (I am a hip hop guy) so I don't know how many professional EDM guys use it but a lot of hip hop producers use Reason just as another plug in in their setup. I do that as well. Reason is great at somethings and not my favorite tool for others. I love Kong but not being able to slice loops quickly in the Reason enviroment made me go grab Giest for example. I still use Kong though. I love the Reason Drum Kits reason refill and I go between it and Addictive drums for my drums. And I have not found a plug in that is like the AbbeyRoads Keyboards reason refill but it doesn't cover all of my bases for vintage keyboards so I use Sonik Synth as well. Variety is the spice of life.

I love Reason 6 though I rarely use it stand alone anymore. To me rewire is not a bad thing I just drop both files into a folder and open them up. Its especially nice because Sonar will open reason for u so all u have to do is select the reason session you used. some of the things with rewire are a little funky but can be used with a few work arounds. I would keep Reason around if I were you and use it along with whatever new program you pick up. I find its cheaper to use Reason modules than it is to go and buy a replacement vst for every Reason function just to get everything you want and need. Example I was looking for a drum synth and now I just use Kong to make synth drums rewired.

plus all the processing on those drums can be done internally within Reason or even within Kong... Holy hell does that make my life easier without requiring all sorts of channel redirection that Battery 3 makes me do :|

I made a decent sounding beat in audacity (to see if I could) and I heard burial uses Soundforge (only slightly better than audacity) so you can really use anything
I bet there' someone out there who's got an album made with Ms Paint

I've been using Reason for over a year, Dave has been using it for like 4 years at least, NoiseStorm uses reason, KOAN, Funtcase, the list goes on... I've heard people trash on Reason all the time, saying that it isn't as good as X or Y, but in reality, once I got to talk to those people, they just wanted to move on to a different DAW because they didn't like the workflow of Reason. Basin uses Logic, Ajay uses FL studio, tons of other forum members use different DAWs, it's all about what feels right to you. Reason can make the same song any other DAW can make, it's just about how it's done.

Trust me dude.. You can get some SERIOUSLY bad ass sounds out of Reason. And yes, there are many famous producers out there that DO use Reason. In fact, Daniel Kandi (He's currently in the top 100 on DJMag) still uses Reason 3. Quintino (A Dutch dirty house producer) LOVES Reason for the Scream 4 bitcrusher. And of course Stromae. I could go on but yea.. Reason is just an amazing tool... You just have to figure out how to use it best

I suppose the real question is....do you need to rewire to pro tools to make a professional song? Don't know if I would wanna spend all that dosh on pro tools.
