It resulted in disappointments because of criticism? When is feedback too early? When is feedback bad?
Or is about beeing too full of yourself when you try to release your music after the first few months of working on it?
I find merit in both approaches really

imo, should people care about negative criticism? no, unless it's constructive.
should people care about the lack of criticism? no.

if you believe in your stuff, promote it in all ways possible. if it's good, it will be recognized.
but if you think your stuff is just ok and you are not sure.. leave it there. it might get successful.

people should market themselves when they feel ready and are happy with what they've done. even if it's just one track or 2.
sometimes noobs put out gems.
some producers and tracks pass bellow the radar on forums and stuff.. but they end up being signed.

Nah, nah like.. I was eager and stupid and my ego was boosted sky-high. A few months after that I realized I was shit and all the producers I sent my tracks to were actually either making fun of me, or giving me a pitty pat.

Either way it was a useful experience. Never rush into something

eye-opening experiences. sometimes producers don't have the capability to judge their own stuff and noticing the flaws.
producers rarely loose anything by sending stuff.

some producers are spotted not for what they made.. but for their potential. that's very rare but it happens. armin discovered and boosted a kid named erick arbores.

I think my goal long term is to be able to make a living off of my music...only for the ability to spend my time on music and not have a job to subtract from it. I love the music scene, and i love making music weather it's a piano arrangement or an electronic composition.
As far as marketing goes, I don't think anyone should purposely not market...as long as you are getting better, you should try to make your music available. That being said I haven't ever sent a demo to a producer, everytime I start one I realize halfway through that it's not good enough :P But I don't mind, this simply means that I'm getting better.

another way to get your music out there, specially the free stuff, is by using peer2peer networks and sites that up to cyberlockers.
