Avid | Pro Tools

Tell us how you got that killer synth effect, why you love your sequencer of choice or that you are sick of hearing the same lame preset every time you load up malstrom ¬_¬

Almost every Pro Tools user seems to use an iMac or other Apple

I had Pro Tools on an HP Desktop with no problem. Don't remember which version it was though. But I'd recommend a Mac of some sort.

At the Moment I run pro tools 10 on a pc rig not a Mac. That being said, are you sure you want to go HD/HDX right now? For you are talking about thousands of dollars on a rig. Pro tools native is cheaper and will still cost a couple grand. If you just want to use the DAW on the pc you have, just get the software for pro tools 10.

To state my background on this subject, I'm in Audio production school, and I use a pro tools 10 hd native rig at school, a pro tools 9 hd2 rig at the schools studio, and a pro tools 10 rig with a 3rd party interface. I am also pro tools 9 user certified and next week am taking my pro tools 9 and 10 operator certification tests next week.

You could get a mac and have windows on it, that's what I'm planning to do when I get a bit of cash
all the hardware goodness of a mac without the annoying OS to get used to

Lol that's the most ridiculous thing i ever heard. Macs do not have better hardware than windows, quite on the contrary. They just the hardware better, because of the.. Ehm. Oh yeah, the OS. People pay for macs because they want the OS, not the hardware. I know i did. I'm not coming near a windows again even if it would save me from certain death.

That's what I meant. I mean, the new macs have faster processors. Aaannnnddd I compared the primary sound driver on my Mac with my PC on the same headphones on the same song and the Mac had higher quality, almost sounded like the ASIO drivers.

The new macs don't have faster processors... The hardware's already out there? Windows computers are built to be modular. Anything on a mac you can have on a windows computer pretty much, except for the OS, unless you want a hackintosh... which isn't legal or reliable... The OS itself is utilizing the processor better. Windows computers utilize their processing power and ram horribly. (at any point in time I'm using ~4.00GB of RAM because Windows 7 claims around 25% of my RAM for itself and I'm not sure why)

As for the sound drivers... Macs have higher quality built in sound cards, yes that is true... But you're probably going to have to get ASIO ones at some point so I don't see your point.

I mean, a mac IS the better choice, but don't throw around incorrect information.

I was falsely informed, my bad bro. Don't listen to me. xD
I've said it before a thousand times...hardware isn't my thing. I shouldn't have even posted. Sorry. xD
