Perfect Pitch

Postby pseudonym » Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:31 pm

I'd like to think that most of the time I can pick out a random note. I wonder if anybody else here experiences this?

Discuss.

I don't quite have perfect pitch, I can't sing a perfect C or whatever, but If you played me a note, I can tell you what it is. I just compare it to open strings on a violin, because I've been playing for so long. The sound of open strings has been imprinted into my brain :P

I can't name a note I heard, but I can pretty much follow it with my voice. It's a pretty useless talent, since I don't have much of a singing voice...

There's this guy in my music class and he can do the same.
It's terribly annoying if people won't shut up about it.

I heard it was about 1 in 10,000 people that have it... I envy those people!

My mom who was in a band for years learned what an "E" sounded like from so much tuning up before performances, which is pretty cool - maybe with enough practice it is something anyone can do!
Hi! I'm Dave from boyinaband. Here's what the band sounds like:

Perfect Pitch is being able to identify a musical note without a reference note. Basically, you can tell what any sound is in the world and classify it into the seven notes. Soon you will hear car horns, clanging cans, or even laughter as musical notes.

That is fucking amazing. I kinda don't have it like you, but I can perfectly sing any riff that gets caught in my head. Can't actually name an E without a reference. God dang that must be so awesome!
Peep da tunes on that picture of that hot chick with them gorgeous eyes.

Perfect pitch is not for everyone.
However, one of my music teachers can calculate what notes is played by using his own normal speakin voice as a reference, which is pretty cool, but not quite as accurate as perfect pitch, because your speaking voice may vary in tonality.
I, Myself know that I talk around the tone E , often in minor pentatonics, but sometimes chromatic.
From that knowledge i'd say that I'm somewhat capable of finding out tones.
