BIAB Sound Exchange

Postby runemopar » Wed Jul 25, 2012 7:07 pm

Anyone interested in this sorta concept where we all post our gears and set-ups offering them to each other for remote usage via PM?

Like I have a pretty extensive modular set up, and for anyone that wanted to make use of it, they'd just send me the MIDI files and however ambiguous or specific instructions as they wish on how to patch it out and I send the audio back. I get valuable practice with patching and they get sounds of a quality or nature they would otherwise not.

This could also go for people with hardware or expensive software compressors where if I maybe wanted to know how a loop sounded compressed under the same settings on different compressors, this would also be useful.

We could also start a BIAB archive of sounds as it builds up, and eventually release maybe a BIAB community sample pack. Since for instance I know we have bass players, etc. on here and they could offer their plucks, etc...

This stretches out pretty far and I had this idea a while ago, but since I found out they were starting something like it on Reddit I was pushed to suggest it here.

I think it's http://www.reddit.com/r/edmsoundexchange/

I could get some bass guitar recordings for people? Don't expect it to be perfect quality but it will have a nice "character"

Well, i'm not sure this community is tech orientated enough for something like this to work. if people WERE to use features from someone else's gear/expertise, it would be considered a collab. And we have a different forum section for that.

This is a bit more oriented towards collecting the sounds together like I suggested with the sample pack, and it's a lot less like a collaboration because it's more just a request out of disadvantage than working together.

Why would it be considered a collab if I asked pokey to send me himself plucking the G# minor scale on his bass guitar at different harshness levels to use in a house track? He gets to practice his bass guitar (whether he needs it or not), I get the sounds I need with pokey's character to them, and they are added to the archive with his permission with pokey credited for everyone else to use.

i guess. I just doubt that people on this forum are skilled enough to be worried about tone or timbre.
