As a big, big Eptic fan, I thought I'd weigh in on this. With the Pump Up The Jam remix specifically, I can see exactly where you're coming from. One of the main things that I dislike about dubstep remixes of songs are remixes that have a little tidbit of something recognizable from the original, then just BLAM, unrelated drop, with little to no relationship to the song being remixed. (which, by the by, isn't a new trend) And admittedly, Eptic did that straight up with that remix, so fair enough there.

On the other hand, the broader bracket of "happy-bouncey-dubstep", is something I think its unfair to write off in its entirety. And I mean, since Eptic started getting some extensive, mainstream recognition he's only had two EP's out I think? In this style that you guys are tired of at least, Eptic EP and Like A Boss EP. I would give the guy until his next one at least if its progression you're looking for. But then theres people like me who love what he's doing right now, I like happy, I like bouncey and, god forbid, I like filthy too. And i'm not the guy covering himself in glowstick juice, shouting about robots and starting a fight. It might be me not having been to as many gigs full of these people that it isn't as much of an issue.

In relation to this and more broadly with dubstep, I think one of the genres real assets is how quickly it evolves. The saturation means that styles like this and other become done and documented so quickly that it forces innovation and creativity in everyone else, eventually at least.

I guess what i'm trying to say is: "Waaaaa, don't say those mean things about eptic, i wub him so dearly!" :P

I'm not fond of that in any genre, and you're right, it's not new. I've been hearing those for a long time and usually I don't like them.

I think I'm with him on this one - I obviously form opinions fairly quickly, but to get a more complete opinion on any artist, you need to hear/see/watch more than just a little - I usually like to judge musicians by their albums for this reason, rather than just EPs or singles.

@MLC You deserve to be a millionaire, dude! Although this is diverging a bit from the thread's topic and bordering on glassy eyed fanboy-like adulation, I just want to make it a point to say, for what it's worth, your stuff is unbelievably, pants-shittingly awesome, in my personal opinion.
I mean that with the utmost sincerity, I should say, I really like the kind of work you are doing, man, hugely inspirational, refreshingly creative and musically virtuosic amongst a lot of current dime-a-dozen EDM stuff (although I won't name names as far as producers :D ), and right up my alley with the chiptune influence. Hopefully this unabashed statement of musical admiration doesn't come on too strong, but it has been a while since I have been so struck by a producer so as to feel the compulsive need to express my appreciation. So, yeah, that's my bit, I suppose.

Your opinions are correct to a certain extent, especially with the extreme speed of the saturation within sub groups of dubstep.
However, I've actually been to a number of gigs, including an Eptic and a Habstrakt gig. I have very few good things to say about the guy as a DJ, apart from he is a good "stage actor". The set is very same-y and even with the movement I saw towards the end to drum and bass, the same noises and influence was maintained.
I'm not bashing all artists at all when it comes to the creation of the music, but with two EP's, you would expect a little progression of sound. But shamefully, there is little to none.
If he pulls it out the bag on his next releases, then I may be swayed, but until then, my opinions are fixed on the guy.
Generally, I believe that he is one of the reasons that the scene is dying out, and it's just another faze of progression for "brostep", which is getting dramatically overkilling to say the least.
If anything, I expect to not see much from Eptic after he's finished touring for approx half a year while he progresses his sound, because I think he will struggle immensely with progression.

Wow, so much hatred towards Eptic... Didn't even know that. First of all, Rmon, I know how extreme you can be, but 'he does not know what he's doing' is pure bullsh. I've known this guy since he was producing DnB on his 14th, and then he didn't know what he was doing. It's funny that everybody is hating on his style, but 'Never Say Die Records' has been doing this stuff for ages. And just because this guy becomes a little popular it's 'amateur work' to produce something like that.

The kid has talent, and he knows what the (sadly due to the hype) crowd wants, and he delivers. It's hard to please everybody. And as Adage said 'you might expect some progression of sound', I can relate to that. But the real fans want THIS sound. And I guess that the difference betweens 'Fools' for example & 'Oh Snap' is pretty big, at least for the 'bouncy-feel-happy Dubstep'.

Now I don't want to get a wrong reputation here, I'm not a fanboy. Nor am I such a big fan of his music (I like it though). It's just so easy for some people to bash on other's succes. And even if it's bad music, and he has no talent, I'm sure he's got further than ANY of us on this forum. So let's give respect where respect is deserved.

I'm not going to discuss about the style of music, everybody has his preferences.

Like i said, eptic is pretty much the only one in that style i like.

But still, his production is really sloppy. Mixdowns are poor, mastering are different with every tune which makes his livesets crappy. But he still kicks wonkap's ass. I was mostly talking about the fact that every new producer makes this now and gets away with it because the audience is musically retarded.

Also, welcome back dude!

Yeah, but Wonkap and the likes are just starstruck teenagers. Once the hype cools down, so will they.

Ah well, if every listener at a rave would be a professional producer, there would hardly be any fun. It seems that since the enormous boom of eletronic music that producers arent only the new rockstars, but also the new sceptics. But that's beside the point.

Cant say much about the mastering, as I'm below amateur level on that. So it's not up to me to criticise that, you might be right, I just don't know.

I just think there's some exagerating in this topic. And making such topics is actually asking for 'flamewars'. Gladd the BIAB forum is at least mature enough. I could start a "In my opinion Netsky sucks at Dj'ing"-thread, but that would just ruin my image... :p
