Because of exams, this is not finished! ): But I've uploaded and entered anyway! (: Go easy on me :D Hehe!

Tutorial

Right. As this is a last minute thing, and because of my numerous amount of exams; this is a very last minute thing. In my remix, there isn't really many things I can do the actual tutorial on except the bass, and it has been resampled and destroyed so many times and I've been building it up for so long that I don't even know how to recreate it. So, the topic I've decided to do my tutorial on is...

Resampling.

Basically, resampling is taking a sound, turning it to audio, and putting it back into the sequencer. This is an extremely useful effect for many reasons like:

o Saving CPU on large projects
o To make it easier to work with and edit as it's in audio
o 'Fucking shit up.'

… among other reasons...

Pt 1.
I'm going to do a little tutorial on making a bass sound. A reesy kind of bass sound.
First, get a synth. Any synth. Make some saw waves, detune them slightly, and add any sort of distortion and phaser effects you can think of until you get a nice meaty, full sound reese sound with a decent amount of high, mids and low end.

Example: [Feel free to download!]

Pt 2.
Now, what you want to do is export one note, or a small pattern like I have to an audio file. As a wav. For this next part, you're going to need a sampler. I use Kontakt, but there are free samplers which can be just as useful for this sound.

Shortcircuit: [FREE]
http://vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php

Open up your reese sound into the sampler and begin by setting it up so that it's playing on the right note.

What I like to do here is open up the sound twice into the sampler, and detune one of them by 1 or 2 cents. I feel this gives it a really cool phased kind of sound. Next, in the sample or outside or it, I will add some more effects like distortion, flangers, phasers etc. But try not to overdo it as you don't want to end up with a weak sound.

Example: [Download if you wish!]

Pt 3.
Right. This is where it's hard to make a tutorial for. Anything goes – literally. Go crazy with filters, resample it again, and again, and again! The sky's the limit! On this reese, what I did was I make a little pattern, and filtered it a little. Then I exported the audio out, and opened it back up as an audio file into my sequencer. I then cut it up and rearranged it until I was happy with it.

PORTAMENTO IS YOUR FRIEND.
I sliced up the audio file, and pitch it around. I reversed some segments and just tried to make a general rhythm.

Here it is on it's own:

And here is the actual bass in action:

I hope this tutorial helps guys, thanks for reading! Also, everything here should be taken with a pinch of salt, in other words, EXPERIMENT! (:

Good luck, and remember, have fun!

Ouh I've been waiting for this :) Awesome as expected! I think the vocals could probably be brought up a little though.

And I love your tutorial man, I've always dabbled to try resampling but never really taken the leap. Really valuable, thanks!
Questions though: When you resample, in what sample rate/ bit depth do you usually export in?

Hey man! :) Thanks for the crit! I always export as a WAV! 24 bit would be enough! (:
